If you’re headed for Victoria, Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria has something special on display through Nov. 8. Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great includes over 400 works from the private collection of Russia’s renowned ruler, who was known throughout her 34-year reign for her artistic passion and vision, and her commitment to education and culture. Along with paintings by Titian, Van Dyck, Rubens and Rembrandt, items include Catherine’s 60-piece Sèvres dinner service.

Also on through Dec. 31, Nordic Cool: Modernist Design pulls from the museum’s own collection. Largely acquired in 1952 as part of the museum’s Felton Bequest, the exhibit explores the period between the 1920s and 1960s through design aesthetic, conceptualized by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto and expressed in ceramics, glass, silver, textiles, lighting and furniture. Seminal pieces include the Ax Armchair (1950), Henning Koppel’s sterling silver teapot (1952) and Koppel’s 1956 silver fish dish.
