Cathay Pacific confirmed new flights to Washington, D.C. (IAD) from Hong Kong (HKG) starting Sept. 15. The flights will run four times a week and will be the airline’s longest route in the network at 7,085 miles.

Cathay will use its newest aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000, to be delivered in spring 2018, on the service. The non-stop flight to Dulles International Airport will complement Cathay’s existing routes to the East Coast, including Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK, EWR). It’s the airline’s first flight directly linking Hong Kong with Washington, D.C.

“Our customers have told us they want greater options and increased flexibility — and we’ve listened,” said Rupert Hogg, chief executive officer, Cathay Pacific. “Much like Hong Kong, Washington D.C. is a vibrant and dynamic destination and we are thrilled to soon be providing the only direct flights between these two great cities. Establishing new direct air links to destinations that aren’t already served from Hong Kong enhances our city’s status as Asia’s largest international hub and allows us to secure new and important sources of revenue.”

The new route is part of Cathay’s long-haul expansion, continuing throughout Europe and the United States.
