Spring is a wonderful season, happily welcomed by me. It is a lovely transition from the dark days of winter, filled with the possibility of hazardous road conditions, canceled flights and lack of daylight during most hours. Once April rolls around, spring is in full bloom. As a frequent traveler myself, this season poses its own set of wardrobe challenges, at least for the Eastern side of the United States.
An average week for me consists of traveling to and from the office, heading to NYC or visiting friends and family up north or down south. The variables in temperature this time of year have created a sense of urgency when it comes to checking the weather daily, but if I’m in Pennsylvania and then in Georgia the same day, sometimes we are talking rain to sunshine and a 15-degree difference!
I decided to compile a list of clothing and travel items I always try to keep nearby to accommodate the drastic fluctuations spring travel can present.
Stephanie’s Spring Travel Prep List:
- Leather or Vinyl Jacket: This is super-convertible because it dries fast if a random shower pops up, and you still look polished while commuting from one place to the next without overheating.
- Layers: Back to overheating or getting too cold … layers offer flexibility with the look of your outfit and also the comfort of having the option to adjust your own temperature to stay comfortable.
- Sunglasses: I know it seems obvious, but winter offered less sunlight, and now is the time to protect your eyes from harmful UV damage.
- Hand Sanitizer: Germs are not seasonal but always present, so just keep this with you.
- Allergy Medication: Just because everything is not blossoming around your neck of the woods does not mean you won’t encounter pollen. Be prepared so you don’t sound like you are drowning with the symphony of nasal congestion and coughing that will surely be appreciated by all you travel with … NOT!
- Cotton Clothing: It breathes and is easily layered.
- Functional Footwear: Waterproof is ideal; this time of year offers spring showers, so investing in a polished yet practical pair of shoes will only benefit you in the long run.
I hope some of the above were helpful reminders during this tough transition period we call spring. As always, happy travels, and don’t forget to stay up to date on the latest and greatest of travel news on our sites, globaltravelerusa.com, trazeetravel.com and whereverfamily.com.
