Turkish Airlines’ Comfort Class

Oct 16, 2015

I just returned from my first visit to Turkey, and I’m currently on week two of a two-week journey around the globe, from New York City to Istanbul to Cappadocia to Los Angeles to Las Vegas to Philadelphia. I’ll be highlighting different experiences from my travels in my blogs over the next several weeks. Needless to say, I’ve been on several flights since I departed Oct. 5, and it only serves to highlight the importance of being comfortable on long flights so travelers can hit the ground running upon arrival. So I’ll start recounting my journey where it all started — in Turkish AirlinesComfort Class cabin. While I was initially disappointed I wasn’t experiencing the airline’s much-lauded business class, I was pleasantly surprised to find my seat and noted it looked much like the older versions on business-class seats, pre-lie-flat seat age. Comfort Class In addition to plenty of legroom and seat width, each passenger received a pillow, blanket and amenity kit with socks, slippers, lip balm, ear plugs, eye shades, toothpaste and a toothbrush. Magazines and newspapers were offered before departing, and a menu distributed just after leveling off at 35,000 feet included two different entrée options. On both my departure and return I opted for the pasta dishes served with salads, an appetizer, fresh bread and a dessert, and paired with a Turkish white wine. Warm hazelnuts, hot towels and a beverage kicked off meal service. Comfort class was separated from the business and economy cabins by curtains, and the cabin bathrooms offered a little something extra with marble countertops and additional amenities. IMG_3402 Crucial, at least for me on long-haul flights, is ample entertainment. Individual screens pulled up for each Comfort Class passenger from the armrest, and comfortable noise-canceling headphones were provided. From the plentiful selection of movies, TV shows, games and music, I watched several new releases and caught up on some shows between my two flights to and from the United States and Turkey. All in all, I have nothing but raves for my flight experiences on Turkish Airlines and in the Comfort Class cabin. — Kim Krol, managing editor

The Bishop’s Lodge’s Bunkhouse: A Rustic, Historic Getaway

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a small town that’s big on historic landmarks, buildings, parks and Western lore. Many of its most fascinating structures also happen to be hotels, including Bishop’s Lodge, which extends the city’s specific charms from the streets into the public areas and private suites and rooms. While most of the properties within historic buildings are upscale, Bishop’s Lodge is now a member of Auberge Resorts Collection thanks to a painstaking restoration, luxury appointments, commitment to personal service and wide range of exclusive activities.
