The Demilitarized Zone, or the DMZ, of Korea serves as a divider between North and South as well as a buffer zone put in place after the Korean War. The zone is protected not only from conflict but also from human disturbance as well, making it a haven for wildlife.
Over the years, the DMZ has become an attraction in itself for visitors, offering a neutral space and ecological wonder. Some of the main sights include
Nuri Peace Park
A large park that can welcome up to 20,000 visitors at a time, the park displays various sculptures and artwork. The park also hosts performances on the hill.
Yeolsoe Observation Deck
This observatory gives you a bird’s-eye view of North Korean soil. There is also an exhibit inside. The fence bordering the observatory contains letters from visitors wishing for Korea’s reunification.
DMZ Museum
Here visitors can learn everything there is to know about the DMZ and its history. Its four exhibitions and theaters are aimed at teaching tourists about the background and future ecological importance of the DMZ.
Eulji Observatory
The sights from this observatory are spectacular and contain views of five mountain peaks of the Geumgangsan Mountains in North Korea. This spot is also one of the best places to view Punch Bowl basin.
