For a while, my annual baseball trip with my friends looked like it wasn’t going to happen. At the very last moment possible, we were able to keep the “Boys of Summer” trip alive by catching the last game of the season in Milwaukee.
Home to the Brewers, Miller Park was completed in 2001. The retractable roof can open or close in 10 minutes. It is a beautiful stadium, with roomy concourses and a capacity of 41,900. On the right field concourse, they have a fun children’s area, complete with a playhouse, clowns and other attractions.
Several times a year, the area also features Jeff Scanlan, performing close-up magic to the astonishment of kids and adults. Scanlan has been doing magic for 14 years at Miller Park and is one of the most popular attractions there.
Living up to our reputation as Renaissance men, we explored a bit of history. We found the spot where the American League was actually founded in 1890, in the now-gone Republican House. We also spent a few hours walking around downtown Milwaukee and admiring the beautiful architecture and the River Walk. It really is a cool area.
Of course, a festive meal is a necessity for us, and we had a great time at Cempazuchi. Recommended on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Cempazuchi did not disappoint. I enjoyed flavorful salmon tacos while the others loved their tamales, burritos and fajitas. They offered a couple unique salsas with their chips, and their fountain Coke was especially good.
Every time I go to Milwaukee, I remember how much I enjoy it. I need to make a few more trips to this underrated city next year.
