As I write this, I stare out the window in Yardley, Pennsylvania, and desperately wish I could turn back time to two weeks ago when I found myself in much nicer weather. My view isn’t exciting — dead trees and snow-covered cars are all I can see. Oh dear L.A., I sure miss you!
Although my trip was short, my colleague Carly Allen, who lives in L.A., made sure I visited at least one Studio City gastropub. We drove down Ventura Boulevard; and although the options were endless, Carly suggested a trendy Argentinian grill for dinner on my last day (and I am glad we decided on that one).
After a day of meetings, we made our way to Lala’s Argentinian Grill. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in; the restaurant was nearly full on a Thursday night, and this gave me an idea what to expect. Glass bottles hung from the ceiling, the lights were dimmed, and the service was super-fast!
Bread and fresh chimichurri sauce were complimentary; however, we opted to share the empanadas combo — four cocktail-sized, assorted empanadas. The choices were shredded chicken, beef, spinach, and ham and cheese — they were light, tasty and practical. The menu had a nostalgic feel to it; the options reminded me of the foods that make me feel at home. I love to visit different specialty restaurants and learn how our cultures are connected to one another.
Argentina is known for its beef and wine, so it’s no surprise my expectations were high. For my entrée, I chose the costilla — delicious and perfectly cooked to a medium temperature, the ribeye steak paired with the fluffiest mashed potatoes I’ve tasted in a while! I paired my meal with a nice glass of Haroldos Reserva’s — a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with hints of raisins and a nice yet unexpected bittersweet chocolate after taste.
We certainly did not have room for dessert, but I didn’t need to have some to give this place a 5-star review! They have three locations in Los Angeles; make sure to pay them a visit next time you’re in the area.
Until next time,
— Yasser Ogando, sales planner
