I recently traveled to Healdsburg, Calif. It was my first visit to Sonoma County, and I was eager to experience all California wine country had to offer.

During my visit, I took a bike tour with Getaway Adventures. The adventure tour operator takes visitors to Napa and Sonoma County for unique wine country experiences. I chose the Sip ‘N’ Cycle option. We met our guides in the morning and drove just outside of the downtown area to pick up our bikes and get situated. Our guide gave us a safety demonstration and showed us how to operate the bikes. Within no time, we were on our way!

We rode to three different wineries for tastings. Martorana Family Winery was our first stop. We took in stunning views, sampled wines and learned more about the family-owned and -operated winery. We next rode the short distance to Bella Vineyards & Wine Caves. The tasting room at the family-run winery is located within a cave underneath the vineyards. It was a unique tasting experience! Our last stop was Preston Farm and Winery. The family-operated farm and winery offers a selection of wines as well as homemade breads and olive oil. Our guides prepared a beautiful buffet-style lunch spread in the outdoor seating area for us to enjoy after our tasting. We sampled local, organic salads; artisan cheeses; locally baked bread; and other goodies. It was the perfect end to the day.

The tour was a great way to see more of the region and sample incredible wines. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone visiting Sonoma or Napa County.
