Planning a New York Visit

As you read this, I am probably on a train headed to New York City with my daughter, Alli. She was asked to perform an important job tonight at the Wherever Awards ceremony at City Vineyard — she’s going to hand out the awards to the winners.

WhereverFamily is our sister publication geared toward family travel, so it’s only fitting we would travel to New York City together for this event. She has never been to New York City, and she is excited to experience as much as she can in a short amount of time.

I told her she has to plan what she REALLY wants to see, and we’ll fit in what we can. I keep giving her ideas, like enjoying the view from the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock, visiting the 9-11 Memorial or Central Park or taking the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty.

Then I remembered when I went to NYC a long time ago, the only thing I wanted to see was the giant piano at FAO Schwarz that Tom Hanks danced on in the movie Big. Then I started to think of some of the movies we’ve watched together that took place in NYC: Night at the Museum, Ghostbusters, Elf, Home Alone 2 and Enchanted. Maybe we should go see some of the places we might recognize from the movies.

Of course, I visited whereverfamily.com to get some more ideas of things to see in NYC. So stay tuned and find out what we ended up doing in next month’s blog.

And if you happen to be in NYC tonight, stop by City Vineyard and say hello. It’s sure to be a fun night!
