Philadelphia Flower Show Celebrates Holland

by Kimberly Inlander

Jan 6, 2017

This year’s theme for the world-renowned Philadelphia Flower Show will honor Holland when it comes to the Pennsylvania Convention Center March 11–19. “Holland: Flowering the World” celebrates the beauty of the Dutch culture with its vivid flower fields and eco-design.

The Netherlands is well-known for the floral industry, and tulips, hyacinths and daffodils will bring a touch of Holland’s history and culture to the City of Brotherly Love. The theme of innovation will also be explored through Holland’s approach to its landscape, windmills, 21st-century eco-domes and the Dutch Wave moment.

The Entrance Garden will greet guests with a sea of 30,000 flowers, bridges, canals and water gardens, with an additional 6,000 blooms in a giant floral canopy. Of course, Holland’s culinary tradition of cheeses, chocolates and beer will also be incorporated into the celebration.

As a native Philadelphia-area resident, I’m excited to once again experience the annual Flower Show, which I’ve attended several times in the past, wandering through past shows dedicated to Hawai’i and Disney movies. The promise of brightly blooming tulips has me eager for March to arrive, as the Philadelphia Flower Show is always a welcome respite from the dreary winter weather.

The show is the nation’s largest and longest-running horticultural event and features displays by some of the world’s premier floral and landscape designers. Subaru is the 2017 premier sponsor, and Bank of America is exclusive sponsor.

I hope to see you there!
