Recently, I took a long weekend with friends for a very unique road trip. A group of four, all craft beer fans, set off across one of the top states in the country for beer — Michigan. I flew from the East Coast to Detroit, and after meeting in Ann Arbor, we headed west on a Friday morning. Our first stop was the Bell’s Eccentric Cafe, the tasting room and bar from Bell’s Brewing. Bell’s is one of my favorite breweries, and they did not disappoint. I ordered tasting room exclusives, including Coffee Doppelbock and Whiskey Barrel Aged Porter, as part of my flight, and also tried a mango habañero version of their Oberon, which was one of the most surprisingly flavorful beers I have ever had. We rounded out our first day with visits to New Holland Pub in the city of Holland and Brewery Vivant, Harmony Brewing Company and Founders in Grand Rapids. On the second day of our tour we headed up north and visited Shorts Brewing in Bellaire and Right Brain and Jolly Pumpkin in Traverse City. Michigan has some great offerings, and my biggest problem now is figuring out how to get some of those great local beers back in Pennsylvania! Cheers! — Rob Setzman, digital sales manager
