Meet the Mets

by mhunt

Aug 9, 2011

This past weekend my extended family from Virginia made their way north. It is always great to see them. On this visit, the youngest generation of cousins met their newest family member, my nephew! It was a weekend filled with fun and sun. Saturday the clan headed east to West Hampton. On Sunday we all gathered at Citi Field to watch the one and only Mets. I arrived at the game during the second inning. I greeted the family and noticed the scoreboard. We were up 2–0. Alas, I knew not to get too excited. Soon, Dillon Gee gave up back-to-back runs and before we knew it, the score was 5–2. We rallied to 5–5, but lost in the ninth inning. What can I say? My family will always be loyal fans, as will I, but the game ended as per usual for our beloved New York Mets. It has been a while since I blogged about the Mets, and I haven’t heard too much from my colleagues down in Phillies land; thank you, everyone. Win or lose, I commend the Mets fans for always being there. Citi Field is a real beauty and fun for all ages. The kids in the family enjoyed the stadium. Because of the heat and our seat choice for this game, we were able to cool off in the Caesars Club, one of the indoor clubs the stadium boasts with food stands, a restaurant and a relaxed atmosphere for when it gets too hot outside. Even though the home team lost, we had a great time. Call me a delusional fan, or full of eternal hope, but I still have faith in our Mets! — Alex Young, vice president and associate publisher

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Sullivan, New York, Has Much in Store in 2025

The 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair was one of the first major music festivals to offer on-site camping, allowing attendees to remain immersed in the experience without ever leaving the grounds. These days, vast stretches of summer farmland east and west of the festival site are still transformed each summer into a cultural wonderland, offering bazaars, arts and crafts, music and educational events, and camping sites, providing festival-goers with a peaceful escape into nature and allowing visitors today to experience the same landscape that welcomed 450,000 people during the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival event.
