London can be viewed as expensive; however, there are plenty of ways to explore the city without breaking the bank. One of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon is wandering through The National Gallery.

Nestled on the northern edge of Trafalgar Square, centuries-old paintings are on display, painted by the world’s most famous artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh and Michelangelo.

General admission tickets are free to the public; however, donations are welcome.

The gallery rooms flow nicely into the next, each offering a unique vibe. My favorite piece (and seemingly everyone else’s, too) was the enlarged portrait of Lady Jane Grey’s execution.

We oohed and aahed as each painting was just as beautiful as the next. The location could not have been better, as it was within a few minutes’ walk of our hotel.

I can guarantee I’ll visit The National Gallery again the next time I am in London.

It is too special not to!
