Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young never sounded better. That is because it was actually Tributosaurus, who had morphed into CSNY to the delight of the crowd at Lincolnwood Fest in Lincolnwood, Ill.
Tributosaurus is not your typical tribute or cover band. They bill themselves as “the Jurassic beast of multiple musical faces,” becoming a different music act every month. I have seen them a few times, but never as a band that I never really liked.
My music elitist friends accuse me of blasphemy for my ambivalence towards CSNY. Perhaps I don’t “know” music as well as they do, but I know what I enjoy, and I don’t enjoy CSNY, or at least I didn’t enjoy them until Friday.
So there I sat on the very softball field where I belted out so many homers (okay, squeaked out many singles), having a great time as Tributosaurus belted out CSNY’s big hits. I enjoyed myself almost as much as I would have belting out that softball home run.
Lead singer Matt Spiegel (of WSCR sports radio) formed Tributosaurus in 2002, and they have been performing around the Chicago area ever since. It is too bad they don’t stray far from the Chicago area, because Tributosaurus is uniquely entertaining.
This was the best Lincolnwood Fest I have attended. The organizers worked hard and smart to put on a great four-day event. I am looking forward to next year being even better, especially if they bring back Tributosaurus.
