Eighteen days in New Zealand — one of the most unforgettable vacations I’ve ever had — was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation and discovery. We started our journey on the North Island, spending just one night in Auckland before heading to South Island, where we would spend the majority of our time exploring its breathtaking landscapes. Each town we visited had something special to offer, from family-run cafés and local markets to a never-ending list of outdoor activities. Whether hiking through lush forests, enjoying scenic drives or stopping at hidden gems along the way, there was always something new to discover.

One of the highlights of our trip was the numerous hikes to witness New Zealand’s stunning natural beauty. The views are exactly how you think they would be. We explored towering waterfalls, marveled at dramatic mountain views and stood in awe of the crystal-clear lakes that seemed to reflect the sky perfectly. But it wasn’t all about the trails — our most spontaneous adventure was a helicopter ride that took us to the top of a glacier. It was surreal to hover above the icy expanse, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and land in a place most people only see in photographs. People actually pay to get taken via helicopter to different spots all over the mountains, and they have to hike to a different area to get picked up again.

Looking back now, especially since joining Global Traveler a few months ago, I can’t help but reminisce about that trip. Maybe it was where I was in my life journey, but there was something about New Zealand that made everything feel just right. It was the perfect mix of adventure, family time and self-reflection. The memories I made are ones I think of often, and I can’t wait for the day I have the chance to return and explore even more of this incredible country.
