After Sitori Tanin won the tip-off, Naelle Bernard hit a three-point shot to start the Loyola Ramblers’ season. The Ramblers never relinquished the lead, cruising to a 91–56 win.
Since the end of college softball, I looked forward to returning to Loyola for women’s basketball. Monday night I arrived early, as usual, to Gentile Arena to get my court-side seat.
The stands quickly filled to one of the biggest crowds I have seen. As the game progressed, it also became one of the loudest.
Immediately after the game, Coach Guth continued her routine of addressing the crowd. No matter the outcome, Coach Guth thanks the crowd, credits the opposition and sends the fans home on a positive note.
There are plenty of reasons for positivity. Under third-year coach Allison Guth, the Ramblers are poised for the best season ever. After six wins, followed by 15 wins, I see the Ramblers surpassing their team record of 18 wins.
After the game, we celebrated at nearby J.B. Alberto’s. The food is always great there, but victory pizza is always the best.
