I enjoy recognizing and honoring Cinco de Mayo each year, usually by enjoying Mexican cuisine, my favorite type of food. I recently read about San Diego’s Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo,
and it sounds like a wonderful way to commemorate Cinco de Mayo, should you happen to be in the San Diego area on Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m.–10 p.m., and Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Old Town transforms into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration in California, now in its 39th year, spanning seven blocks with a bustling mercado and artisans, décor, dining options, craft margaritas, a cantina garden and performances. Stop into Old Town’s museums
and historical sites to learn more about California’s first settlement.
In 2022, two returns ensure the celebration will be a fiesta like no other. The crowd-favorite Lucha Libre wrestling stage will allow attendees to cheer on masked luchadores from the sidelines.
Café Coyote Stage also makes a comeback with a lineup including local bands, mariachis,
flamenco and more. Street performances and roaming mariachis enhance the mercado experience.
All proceeds from the free fiesta benefit the Historic Old Town Community Foundation.

You know what you’re going to get at an Aman hotel, and also you don’t. Expect peerless service, obsessive attention to detail, architectural elegance worthy of a fashion magazine, a holistic approach to wellness and astounding levels of comfort. But each property is also intimately connected to its setting, and that’s where the surprises lie. For instance, finding yourself on your knees on a sidewalk in Luang Prabang handing out sticky rice to Buddhist monks at 5:30 a.m. isn’t something we expected.
