Aside from great barbecue, South Carolina offers a tremendous selection of fresh, local seafood. The Blue Heron Restaurant and Sushi Bar is one of Clemson’s gems. My love of seafood makes this restaurant my go-to for anniversaries, celebrations and “just because.”

Blue Heron has been open since 2002 and is known for its premium seafood and beef. Aside from the creative, classic and innovative dishes at the restaurant, locals come to Blue Heron for its sushi. I have to admit, I am not much of a sushi fan and have never ordered any from this restaurant. Regardless, it is known to be some of Clemson’s best.

Before you even order, the hospitable waiters and waitresses greet you with freshly baked bread and three different kinds of butter to taste. Blue Heron also has a unique wine menu with select bottles half off on Wednesdays. If you are in town during the week, be sure to take part in the Hump Day offer.

My favorite item on the menu is the seared crab cakes served with wilted spinach and lemon caper buerre blanc. It is hands down the best crab cake I have ever eaten in my seafood-obsessed life. Check it out in the picture attached. Behind my crab cake is my boyfriend’s favorite — the molasses barbecue duck confit flatbread.

The entrées consist of pork chops, filet mignon, salmon, lamb, duck, shrimp — you name it. Most dishes come served on the cheese grits; prepare to be amazed.

Last time I went to this restaurant, I rode on the back of the duck confit lover’s motorcycle in a dress and heels … needless to say, I do not recommend it. But besides my journey to Blue Heron that one time, I have not one complaint. 10/10 in my book!
