With the travel and many other industries affected by coronavirus, we are trying to regain lost time. Businesses need the economic turnaround to put their services back in play.
I went on a business trip to Washington, D.C., last week and met with the president of Hilton Hotels. Masks, social distancing and all, it was a great meeting, and to be completely honest, it was a relief to be in person with new people once again.
This was my second trip to D.C., and it was quite the treat to conduct business and enjoy some downtime.
Our stay at the Conrad was phenomenal, with wonderful views across the city.
After the afternoon meeting and a tour of the property, I made my way around town, walking and exploring the capital.
The hotel staff graciously placed a bottle of wine in my room for a delicious happy hour prior to dinner at the Del Frisco’s right around the corner. I highly recommend the butter cake for dessert!
Needless to say, these hotels, restaurants, airlines and more need our safe support! Each company is, as I’ve said many times, adapting to the changes. Hilton hotels are honoring a Hilton Clean Stay Program, with labels and sanitizing stations across the hotel. They are ready for us when we are ready for them.

Mar 13, 2026Revive and Relax at Finisterra Spa at Martinhal Sagres Family Beach Resort
Most visitors remember Portugal’s Algarve for its 100-plus miles of golden, sun-drenched beaches. We remember this southern coast of Portugal for the quiet, white-washed villages and dramatic cliffs of its far western corner. And for the superbly serene Finisterra Spa at Martinhal Sagres Family Beach Resort, where we first discovered what a massage and facial could do for aching shoulders and faces parched from days of hiking along the sun-washed clifftops. Neither I nor my husband, Tim, had been fans of spas before that trip, but Finisterra made us believers.

Mar 11, 2026Vetera Matera Review
Carved from the honeyed limestone of Matera’s ancient sassi, Vetera Matera is the only 5-star luxury albergo diffuso in the Relais & Châteaux portfolio, unfolding across restored cave dwellings within UNESCO-listed Sassi di Matera. After nearly eight years of meticulous restoration, the property reactivates a historic portion of Sasso Barisano, integrating contemporary hospitality into architecture shaped by human excavation since the Paleolithic era.
