Through Sept. 18, the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art presents a series of events at assorted city venues, bringing together new works by around 50 local, established and emerging artists for talks, performances, tours and social gatherings. At the Berlinische Galerie, Dadaism and its 100th anniversary are the focus of DADA Africa: Dialogue with the Foreign (Aug. 5–Nov. 7). Around 120 works will be on exhibit, culled from collections in Germany and other countries illustrating this revolutionary aesthetic in five different sections. On Aug. 27, the annual Long Night of Museums gets underway, with one ticket providing access to shuttle service and approximately 100 city museums, which will remain open from 6 p.m. Saturday evening until 2 a.m. Sunday morning, supplemented by music, theater and culinary events. The 5th Berlin Art Week (Sept. 13–18) ushers in autumn with a series of art fairs, exhibitions, lectures, films and tours. From Sept. 23–Feb. 12, 2017, the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum for Contemporary Art will present Ernst Ludwig Kirchner: Hieroglyphics. A selection of 18 works by Kirchner from the museum’s own collection spanning his artistic range will explore the expressionist painter’s sentiment regarding “hieroglyphs as signs of expression.” Elsewhere in the city and set to open toward the end of this year, collector Désiré Feuerle will open his private collection of Chinese design and international and contemporary Southeast Asian art in a former World War II telecommunications bunker, renovated by British architect John Pawson. A preview of the collection will also take place during the Berlin Biennale.
