History and modernity merge in downtown Manhattan where a new luxury hotel opened in one of New York’s first skyscrapers.

The Beekman Hotel, the recent project from Thompson Hotels, opened in late 2016 and comprises 287 guestrooms across nine stories that honor the origins of the building, constructed during the city’s Gilded Age. Once known as Temple Court, the building originally served as home to law offices and was abandoned for decades.

Oriental rugs are draped across not only the floors but also some of the standing furniture, and velvet fabrics meet wooded and wrought-iron accents that evoke a sense of old-world glamour. Both guestrooms and public spaces are graced with paintings, photographs and sculptures that reference the stories of 19th-century Manhattan.

The LEED-certified restored building serves sumptuous meals from two restaurants: Fowler & Wells from Tom Colicchio, and Augustine from Keith McNally. Colicchio’s culinary team also crafts catering services and in-room dining.
