Earlier this month, Aurora Expeditions announced plans to soon welcome its third small ship, Douglas Mawson, to its fleet. Slated to set sail in 2025, the revolutionary small ship will take an average of 154 passengers to the world’s wildest places. The ship, named after the legendary Australian geologist and explorer, embodies Mawson’s spirit.

The ship will feature the latest and greatest Ulstein X-BOW, designed for smoother and faster ocean crossings and world-leading fuel efficiency. Nordic interior designs will be incorporated throughout the ship. Passengers can choose from stylish and comfortable staterooms and suites across 11 different categories, most featuring private balconies. For the first time, Aurora Expeditions will also offer several single-berth cabins to cater to the solo traveler.

Douglas Mawson will be home to two restaurants, two bars, an outdoor heated swimming pool, pool bar, Jacuzzis, a gym, sauna, relaxation and wellness areas, library lounge, citizen science center, lecture theater, and expansive observation decks.
Douglas Mawson’s inaugural season will also mark Aurora Expeditions’ return to East Antarctica for the first time in 15 years.
