There is always myriad reasons to visit beautiful Asheville, North Carolina, and warm weather in the Great Trails State is the perfect time to explore its outdoor options. Here are some travel-worthy activities to consider, from waterfall paths and farm tours, festivals to live music:
Asheville Amadeus, May 11 to 20
This event sees 10 days of performances coordinated by Asheville Symphony. This year’s event headliner is 15-time Grammy award-winner Béla Fleck.
Feed baby goats, take a farm tour and sample artisan cheeses at Mount Gilead Farm, where third-generation farmers tend a herd of sweet-natured goats.
Through Sept. 2, test your climbing skills at night with Twilight in the Treetops, an illuminated ropes course at Adventure Center of Asheville.
May 26–28, this three-day block party showcases Asheville’s Black entrepreneurs and business owners, held in River Arts District. Come for live music, food trucks, poetry slams and carnival rides.
Harvest your own bouquet at Never Ending Flower Farm while enjoying views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The self-pick season begins this month with poppies, larkspur and nigella.
On the third Friday and Saturday of the month, lace up your hiking boots and take a guided foraging expedition with Wild Goods to locate edible mushrooms and plants.
At AVL Fest (Aug. 3–6), local and national music acts — including River Whyless, Tall Tall Trees and Toubab Krewe — fill the air with music at more than 20 separate city venues.
Oh— and did you say “floating dance party?” That’s right — River Raves offers exactly that on the French Broad River, where the floating dance floor and DJ booth are guided by experienced rivers hosts while you dance the night away.
