Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is once again the most connected airport in the nation, according to OAG’s 2019 Megahubs Index.
The U.K.-based air travel intelligence company ranked domestic airports by the highest number of possible connections compared to the number of destinations served.
The report shows, on the busiest flying day this year, 83,580 connections were possible between domestic scheduled flights within a three-hour time window at O’Hare, representing a 2 percent jump from last year.
O’Hare ranks third behind London Heathrow Airport and Germany’s Frankfurt Airport on a global level.
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International, the world’s busiest airport, came in second for connectivity in the United States, followed by American Airlines’ hubs at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Charlotte Douglas International Airport. DFW is up one spot in 2019, overtaking CLT for third. In fifth place: United Airlines’ hub Denver International Airport.
Other airports in the top 10 are Detroit Metropolitan Airport; Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport; Los Angeles International Airport; Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport; and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
