American Express opened The Centurion Lounge last week at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The Houston lounge is the second in Texas and the seventh countrywide. Situated in Terminal D, the lounge measures 8,500 square feet and offers award-winning dining and drinks, a custom art installation, workspaces, a family room, technology bar and more. “Our cardmembers travel across the country and around the world, and Houston is an important hub and a gateway to many international destinations. We’ve been steadily growing The Centurion Lounge network in the places our cardmembers travel most as we aim to make travel more seamless and enjoyable. For The Centurion Lounge in IAH, we wanted to create a memorable travel experience intrinsic to Houston’s culture with locally inspired art, food and drink,” said Janey Whiteside, senior vice president and general manager of global charge products and benefits, American Express. James Beard award-winning chef Justin Yu, brings local flavor to the lounge, with a menu of light but groundbreaking fare, inspired by both Southwestern and Asian cuisine. The menu is accompanied by an array of pastries from Oxheart and signature cocktails designed by Jim Meehan. The lounge is open 5:30 a.m.–9 p.m. on a complimentary basis for business, corporate platinum and Centurion cardmembers, as well as cardmembers’ immediate family or two travel companions. Other American Express cardmembers may purchase a one-day lounge pass for $50.
