The days of waiting at baggage carousels is over for American Airlines customers with the airline’s launch of customer baggage notifications.

The notifications alert customers of the status of their checked baggage if the bag is not on the same plane when they land at their destination. Customers receive an alert shortly after arriving, as well as the next steps to take for resolution.

The three types of alerts American Airlines customers can receive are early baggage arrival; late baggage arrival — go to baggage service offer; and late baggage arrival — mobile baggage order.

The baggage service office notification directs customers — such as those with an international segment in their reservation — to see an agent at the baggage office. The mobile baggage order notification advises customers to fill out a baggage order on their mobile device. This automated message asks for the customer’s delivery details and a bag description to help expedite the return of personal items.

Delta Air Lines launched a similar luggage-tracking map in December of last year, which tracks bags from check-in through various checkpoints with a time stamp and informative messages.
