American Airlines joins the crop of other airlines that introduced a premium-economy class of seats to long-haul aircraft.
In order to install this new class of seats, American plans to replace eight existing business-class seats in its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner planes with 28 premium-economy seats, bringing the number to 20 business-class seats.
Premium-economy seats will offer more legroom, foot rests, larger entertainment screens, a wider variety of meal options, an amenity kit for each passenger and a set of pillows and blankets.
In addition to this change, American also will adjust seating in its 777-200 jetliners to make room for premium economy. American will remove eight of its 13 business-class seats from these planes, as well.
Currently, premium-economy seats are installed in 67 of American’s aircraft, with an expansion to 124 planes by mid-2019. Premium economy is available on long-haul, international flights, excluding shorter routes to destinations such as Mexico.
