All Nippon Airways continues to push the technological envelope with the announcement the airline will employ Mototok Spacer 8600 equipment to facilitate remote tug procedures at Kyushu Saga International Airport.
The Mototok Spacer 8600 is a remote-operated pushback tug that will pull operating aircraft. The introduction of the technology will reduce the overall workload at the airport and increase precision in tug operations.
ANA is the first Japanese airline to use the technology, which it began testing at Haneda International Airport in September 2018.
“The Mototok Spacer 8600 will help ANA become more eco-friendly while also boosting safety and cutting costs. By enhancing our current technological portfolio, our team will continue to improve every aspect of the air travel experience and challenge the status quo,” said Shinichi Abe, executive vice president, ANA.
The equipment is a powerful way to improve airport operations. The spacer has a towing capacity of 95 tons and can reach speeds of 6 kmph. An 80-volt battery lets it position up to 30 aircraft on a single charge.
ANA said the adoption of the Mototok Spacer 8600 is the most recent step toward adopting technology to better serve the convenience and safety of its passengers.
