Airberlin ceased operations Oct. 28, according to its website. In a FAQ posted in response to the news, the airline says it will “no longer be possible” to operate during insolvency proceedings. The airline filed for administration in August after a withdrawal of investment from partner airline Etihad.
Airberlin received an emergency loan from the German government to keep it operating while it looked for potential buyers. Lufthansa and EasyJet each bid on the purchase.
The FAQ says any passengers with tickets booked before Aug. 15, when the airline filed for bankruptcy, are not entitled to a refund. Seats bought after this date will be reimbursed, minus taxes and fees, if the flight is no longer able to operate. Customers will not be able to rebook with another carrier through airberlin.
Despite the news, the airline continued to offer tickets on flights, though it doesn’t guarantee services will continue after Nov. 1.
