AirAsia officially started its pivot to the future with the recent introduction of its first Airbus A321neo.
The first of the airline’s future single-aisle fleet arrived at the end of November. It is the first of 353 Airbus A321neos AirAsia Group has on order. Eventually, the aircraft will replace all Airbus A320 and A320neo aircraft. It is set to become the first of the aircraft type to operate in Malaysia.
The A321neo includes 236 seats and allows the airline to fly farther, with more than 10 per cent in fuel efficiency increases.
To start, AirAsia will operate the craft out of Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to varied destinations across Asia.
“The new generation state-of-the-art aircraft will allow AirAsia to further boost air connectivity to and from Malaysia ahead of Visit Malaysia 2020, at the same time deliver greater opportunities for tourism, business and trade in line with the government’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030,” said Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Group CEO, AirAsia Group.
Earlier this year, the airlines converted 253 orders for A320neo to the A321neo aircraft.
