Real estate development firm BECCA and strategic architecture and planning partner GRITT teamed up for a new project, The Don Dom. This new gated residential complex is set to open in 2027 in the heart of Dominicus-Bayahibe, and aims to blend the ease of resort-style living with comfort and privacy.

With inspiration from Crete and hints of the natural rhythms of the Caribbean, The Don Dom will introduce a model for modern coastal living, putting an emphasis on sustainability, privacy and authenticity.

Currently, the project is under Phase 1 of the overall plan — La Isla. La Isla will feature 294 residences surrounding saltwater pools on a private island, all designed to resemble a Caribbean retreat. These homes provide plenty of natural light, airflow and privacy, while still allowing residents to have access to water, and the communal areas and community amenities.

The Don Dom will feature five types of units:

Island Houses

Island houses are the most exclusive residences on the island and feature three-bedroom homes with plenty of privacy, en-suite bathrooms, a full kitchen, a private terrace, a golf cart, exclusive parking, and direct access to beaches and lagoon-style pools.

Flex Dual-Key Apartments

These apartments feature an innovative layout with two independent living spaces within one unit. Both spaces include a private kitchen, bathroom and entrance, allowing the space to either function as a two-bedroom apartment or as two different one-bedroom units.

Two-Bedroom Apartments

These apartments offer spacious, comfortable living with en-suite bathrooms, an integrated kitchen and living area, and a private terrace. Some of the ground-floor units even have swim-up access from the pool.

One-Bedroom Apartment

With the perfect combination of function and style, one-bedroom apartments include a full bathroom, an open-concept kitchen and living area, in-unit laundry, and plenty of storage space.

Studios

Studios offer an open-concept space featuring an integrated kitchen, full bathroom and spacious living area.

All guests of these units have access to resort-style amenities, such as artificial white-sand beaches, saltwater pools, Island Club & Bar, a Zen Garden with hammock lounges, a kids’ zone with a signature bubble slide, communal reading lounges, quiet spaces, co-working nooks, walkable paths, bike trails and more.

Global City Guidebook: Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is not only one of the capitals of South Africa but also the oldest city in the country. Cape Town hugs the Port of Cape Town in Table Bay, extending to the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The city endured years of segregation during apartheid, including uprisings. Today the city continues to rebound in a post-apartheid era, with many major companies headquartered in the city center, popular beaches teeming with visitors in warmer months, engaging museums and aquariums, and a thriving tourist industry promoting the city’s culture and natural beauty.

Hotel Saint Augustine Review

Blending with its Montrose neighborhood like the indigenous and cultivated plants hugging the property’s walkways, the newly built Hotel Saint Augustine opened mid-January 2025. The first Bunkhouse hotel in Houston, Texas, is easily mistaken for garden apartments. Seventy-one guest rooms and suites encompass a tree-lined block. The hotel’s buildings are only two stories tall and also house a lobby, lounge, restaurant and event space. Tucked into a corner of the grounds sits a circular outdoor pool.

Global City Guidebook: Phoenix

Arizona’s capital and most populous city basks beneath the sun year-round, boasting Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, major sports teams, luxury spas and lively nightclubs. The city lies within the Salt River Valley along the northern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, making for dramatic mountain views and vast desert landscapes beyond. The city itself comprises 15 urban villages, many tracing roots to historical communities. Despite brutally hot summers, various experiences and sites in and around the city combat the heat, such as tubing and kayaking on the Salt River, swimming in any of the city’s six lakes, taking a moonlight hike, or floating in one of a number of the city’s upscale hotel pools.
