There was a time when Loews Philadelphia Hotel was America’s first skyscraper. Designed and constructed in Art Deco style with rare woods and marble from around the world, it was also home to the first savings bank in the United States. An imposing 33 stories, the building boasted curved glass and daring geometric shapes. The top floor was reserved for Philadelphia’s elite, an exclusive setting where many powerful business deals were negotiated. That was all in a past life.
Today, Loews Philadelphia pays homage to its illustrious past by showcasing the bank vault doors from the Philadelphia Saving Fund Society in the lobby. It even named its restaurant in honor of its banking heritage. Bank & Bourbon serves traditional American fare with a contemporary flair and seasonal dishes.
With a central location in the heart of the city, many historic attractions are within a short walking distance of the hotel. Independence Hall is practically a block away. The Pennsylvania Convention Center is directly across from the hotel, making it extremely convenient for convention events like the annual Philadelphia Flower Show, billed as the “largest indoor flower show in the world.”
Loews Philadelphia Hotel has a commanding view of the downtown. Most rooms offer a breathtaking view — mine certainly did. There are 581 spacious guestrooms in the hotel, all recently renovated. Included are 12 suites and 54 club rooms, along with three ballrooms. A fitness center, indoor pool and spa are available on premises.
The rooms feature complimentary WiFi, flat-screen TVs and a working desk with ergonomic chairs. Keurig coffeemakers with gourmet coffee help you greet the morning. Personal bathroom amenities showcase Julien Farel hair and skin products. Plus, a complimentary morning newspaper is available.
This 4-star hotel is an excellent choice for business travelers, couples, families and groups.

The 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair was one of the first major music festivals to offer on-site camping, allowing attendees to remain immersed in the experience without ever leaving the grounds. These days, vast stretches of summer farmland east and west of the festival site are still transformed each summer into a cultural wonderland, offering bazaars, arts and crafts, music and educational events, and camping sites, providing festival-goers with a peaceful escape into nature and allowing visitors today to experience the same landscape that welcomed 450,000 people during the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival event.
