Fall in Philadelphia is such a fun time of year — with outdoor activities everywhere and street festivals every weekend —I’m always sad to see it go. Then I remember the holiday markets, tree lightings and pop-up festivities happening throughout the city and I feel better.

Between Dilworth Park, Love Park and the Blue Cross RiverRink on Columbus Boulevard, there are plenty of Christmas markets to choose from. Dilworth Park’s ice-skating rink and holiday gardens were already swarmed with visitors this past weekend and it’s not even December yet, so I think my fellow city dwellers share the interest.
The tree lighting in my own neighborhood, on East Passyunk Avenue, happens tonight at the Singing Fountain — complete with carolers and activities for kids. For the adults, there is the pop-up Christmas-themed bar, Miracle on 9th Street, at In The Valley on East Passyunk.
Philadelphia is not the only city, however, to spread Christmas cheer. Nationwide, there will be 51 pop-up holiday bars designed in the same vein. Check out one near you and get in the holiday mood with holiday spirits.
