The eastern neighborhood of Oakland in Pittsburgh, Pa., began construction on a new luxury Marriott hotel, scheduled to open in approximately two years. The Hotel Oakland Marriott will be built on land owned by the Pittsburgh Athletic Association that the organization had to release due to financial difficulty.

The new building will be one of Marriott’s Autograph Collection properties, one of 72 other such properties throughout the nation and 131 worldwide. These particular Marriott hotels cater to independent-thinking travelers and add elements of unpredictable individuality to features and amenities.

Although the hotel will consume much of PAA’s previous territory, the club will still remain next to the new hotel. Members of the social and athletic club hope the Oakland Marriott will attract guests who may want to book private meeting and banquet space at the adjacent property, a building in existence and operation in Oakland for more than 100 years.
