Last week I attended the launch event celebrating EVA Air’s inaugural Chicago (ORD)–Taipei (TPE) service at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Chicago is the eighth North American gateway to serve the airline, joining Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA), New York (JFK), Toronto (YYZ) and Vancouver (YVR). The airport welcomed the Boeing 777-300ER with a water cannon salute.
The new service aims to connect Taiwan with the midwestern United States, increasing tourism to Chicago and business and economic ties to Taiwan. Chicago is a very important economic, cultural and educational market for EVA Air, and the new service is expected to make a $200 million economic impact for Chicago and Taipei.
The 13-hour flight runs four times weekly, leaving Chicago in the morning and arriving in Taipei the following morning. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft is equipped with 333 seats: 39 in Royal Laurel Class business, 56 in Elite premium economy and 238 in economy. I had the opportunity to explore the aircraft and experience the attractive premium cabins. After testing out the seats and touring the aircraft, I’m eager to experience the in-flight service!
Congratulations to EVA Air on connecting Chicago and Taipei!

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
