Stylish Barcelona is steeped in art and architecture, from Gaudi’s famously unfinished filigreed spires of Sagrada Familia to the designer’s masterpiece sculptural structures — among them, the residential buildings of Casa Vicens, Casa Batlo, Finca Güell and Le Pedrera; and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Parc Güell, a stunning complex of gardens and terraces that includes Gaudi’s former home. That’s just the tip of the Barcelona design iceberg, with scores of noteworthy buildings created by luminaries that include Frank O. Gehry’s enormous copper Peix fish sculpture at Port Olimpic, Lluis Domènech i Montaner’s Palau de la Musica Catalana, the angel friezes on the Arc de Triomf, and the historic Cathedral of Santa Eulalia where a herd of alabaster-colored geese dwell in a pooled courtyard, descendants of birds kept by the Romans centuries ago. Great aerial views of all of Barcelona’s offerings can be enjoyed from a cable car gliding above the rooftops. Catch one at Sant Sebastia station near Barceloneta Beach for a ride across the bay and the hilltop fortress of Castell de Montjuic. Various cable car lines cover different areas, some with stops at built-in observation decks like the one at Mirador del Alcalde. Throughout Barcelona and between colorful structural gems like those mentioned above lie oodles of world-class museums, galleries, luxury shopping options and fabulous restaurants. While you’re there, be sure to soak in your own authentic experience with a stroll through the city’s historic Barri Gotic quarter, a glass of sparkling Catalan cava at Café de L’Opera, and shopping along the famed Las Ramblas pedestrian avenue where you’re sure to find something special to remind you of your time in this stunning city.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
