I’ve had the good fortune of spending a lot of time in Italy. I lived abroad in Florence and spent many days wine tasting in Tuscany during my time there. This past weekend gave me flashbacks to my life in Italy, or as I like to call it, “La bella vita, una volta.” I went on a road trip and for the first time drove up the coast of California from Los Angeles, all the way up to Monterey and inland to Paso Robles. The coastal drive was insanely beautiful, and each twist and turn offered a completely different view. It was an instant reminder as to why I love living in California. I totally had a love affair with Cali all over again. Paso Robles is located north of San Luis Obispo, which we stopped to explore on the way home. It was the cutest town ever. Paso Robles is known for its hot springs, abundance of wineries, production of olive oil and almond orchards. I’m calling it “Mini Tuscany.” I was pleasantly surprised to be surrounded by rolling hills of vineyards and orchards. It was a sight for sore eyes. The weather was perfect, and the tastings were endless and delicious. I’ve been to Napa Valley and Sonoma, which are the leading wine producing regions in California, but I actually personally purchase many wines from Paso Robles on a regular basis while at the grocery store. If you’re a wine-o and haven’t been to Paso Robles yet, I would highly recommend making the trip. There is a plethora of wineries to experience, and the general area is just beautiful. Other nearby areas to drive to include Carmel-by-the-Sea, Monterey and picturesque Big Sur, all equally as fulfilling and stunning as the next coastal town.
