Food’s The Focus In Dubrovnik This Winter Season

Oct 30, 2015
Daily

The opulent Villa Orsula — part of the Adriatic Luxury Hotels collection — is located along Dubrovnik’s seafront with spectacular private gardens and status as the city’s most luxurious hotel. Built in 1939 and beautifully restored prior to its grand re-opening in 2012, it features a library and private beach, and has added to its already impressive standing in the culinary world with the appointment of chef Robert Chavez to the team at Victoria Restaurant & Lounge Bar.

Taste the magic for yourself at one of the Mediterranean’s most stylish new properties with the Mediterranean Boutique Escape, available through the end of 2015. Along with three night’s accommodation in a spacious room with gorgeous views of the sea and the island of Lokrum, guests receive a bottle of Moët & Chandon and locally harvested strawberries in their room upon arrival, and a personalized shopping expedition at Maria Concept Store in the city’s Old Town, with purchases delivered directly to your room.

The escape includes personal chauffer service to and from Old Town, a welcome drink to launch the shopping experience and a €100 gift voucher. Airport transfers in a luxury town car are provided upon arrival and departure, along with early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability). Breakfast is complimentary each morning, along with access to the wellness and spa facilities at the Hotel Excelsior next door (also a member of Adriatic Luxury Hotels). Prices begins at €1,358 (about $1,537).

The Flight Less Taken: Unsung Carriers Whisk You Away to Far-Flung Destinations

The miracle of flight feels slightly less miraculous these days. Endless delays, cramped seating and shortchanged amenities feel par for the course, and one can easily forget the wondrous fact that you’re hurtling above planet Earth, soaring above the clouds and across the skies to your destination of choice. In the olden days, you were limited to the fallibility of your outrigger canoe or horse-drawn carriage. It’s not hyperbolic to invoke the invention of the wheel when reminding oneself to stay calm and carry on in coach.

Review: Bodysgallen Hall

The National Trust owns more than 500 historic buildings across the United Kingdom, each offering a vivid sense of its particular era. In common with many visitors, I often find myself wondering what it would be like to actually live in such a place. Imagine sitting, for instance, in one of those ancient oak-paneled drawing rooms at night, with the fire roaring and the wind rattling the ancient mullioned windows. I didn’t have to imagine it. Here I was, immersed in history in 17th-century Bodysgallen Hall in North Wales.

How Safe Are Theme Park Rollercoasters? Should We Be More Wary?

No matter your age, we’ve all ventured to an amusement park at one point or another. Whether taking a trip solely to visit a theme park and ride rollercoasters or tacking on an extra day of a trip to enjoy some thrills at a nearby park, it’s nearly impossible to not enter an amusement park. But even the most adrenaline-seeking travelers are starting to pause after the Oct. 12 incident in which 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem fell to his death while riding Goliath rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, a theme park outside of Atlanta. After the tragedy, Six Flags, the country’s largest theme park operator, closed 10 rides across seven states.

Step Inside the Intricate World of Airport Operations

Air travel has become a lot more, shall we say, challenging over the years, what with increased flight delays, air traffic control issues and the sheer volume of travelers making their way through airports around the world. Add constantly evolving technology, innovations and travelers’ needs, and airport operations teams must stay on their toes to continually improve not only their customers’ experiences but also streamline internal efforts to be more efficient and effective.
