Off the Map Travel is gearing up for flickering skies with the Original Grand Aurora Tour. Based on sightings in August and September, winter may be shaping up to be a good viewing season — though Aurora hunters know that the lights are notoriously capricious. Travel to the Auroral Oval, a ring-shaped area around the magnetic North Pole that includes Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Finland where the lion’s share of dramatic lights can be seen. How you travel is up to you: Choose from Off the Map Travel’s small group expeditions, an independent tour or a jaunt with a personal guide.
Off the Map’s Original Grand Aurora Tour includes prime viewing locations in Norway, Sweden and Finland. An expert guide leads the way, and the 10-day journey features reindeer sledding, a Northern Lights dinner cruise, Aurora photography evening, exclusive Aurora Sky Station dinner trip, dogsledding expedition, a visit to Sweden’s ICEHOTEL, a three-border point snowmobile trip in Finland, Northern Lights tour in a sled pulled by a snowmobile, reindeer and culture tour and a guided city walk in Tromsø, Norway. Accommodations with some meals are included, and travel days come with breaks at traditional Scandinavian coffee shops. Prices begin at £5,999 (about $9,220) per person, based on double occupancy and excluding flights.

Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”

Why Japan Is Best Explored by Sea with Princess
Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons — feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.
