Less than a week after the derailment of Northeast Regional Train 188 killed eight people in Philadelphia, Amtrak service has resumed on the portion of the Northeast Corridor closed during the ensuing investigation.
Service resumed with the Monday departures of Train 110 from Philadelphia at 5:53 a.m. and Train 111 from New York City at 5:30 a.m. Those departures marked the restoration of full service including Amtrak Acela Express and Northeast Regional.
“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our number one priority,” said Joe Boardman, president and CEO, Amtrak. “Our infrastructure repairs have been made with the utmost care and emphasis on infrastructure integrity including complete compliance with Federal Railroad Administration directives.”
