Another one bites the dust. US Airways will join the ranks of extinct airline monikers (Pan Am, Continental, Northwest among others) this summer when American Airlines begins phasing out the US Airways’ reservations system and moving bookings to American’s system. The two carriers merged in 2013.
The process is expected to take about 90 days. American Airlines is approaching the change in a steady-as-she-goes systematic manner to minimize the potential of glitches that could affect passengers’ experience. In the initial stage, American will notify passengers holding US Airways reservations of the change, but confirmation codes and schedule will remain the same.
If passengers log on to the US Airways website to book tickets for travel beyond the 90-day period, the system will automatically redirect them to the American Airlines website.
