Finnair will grow its route network in North America with new seasonal service between Helsinki (HEL) and Miami (MIA) next winter. “Finns love Miami and southern Florida, and there is a sizeable Finnish expatriate community in the region. At the same time, this new direct route also gives us the opportunity to develop Finland and Lapland as exotic winter tourism destinations for Americans,” said Pekka Vauramo, CEO, Finnair. The seasonal service will be operated with Airbus A340 in a two-class configuration from Dec. 16 through March 21, 2015. Flights from Helsinki will depart Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:55 a.m. and arrive in Miami at 2:05 p.m. Service from Miami will take off at 4 p.m. and arrive in Helsinki at 8:50 a.m. From Jan. 3, 2015, the service will switch to three-times weekly with an additional frequency on Saturdays. The route will be part of the trans-Atlantic agreement Finnair has with oneworld partners American Airlines, Iberia and British Airways.
