Air New Zealand just unveiled its new uniform; New Zealander Emilia Wickstead, a well-regarded fashion designer, designed the new look to embody the airline’s sense of pride in Aotearoa, which is New Zealand in Māori. The uniforms feature bold prints, colors and intricate designs.
“For us, this is more than just a uniform; it is a celebration of our people, our culture, and our values. Air New Zealand has never been about standing still or blending in,” said Greg Foran, chief executive, Air New Zealand. “As an airline, we are all about being bold, celebrating what makes us unique, and celebrating our team members. This new uniform encapsulates everything we stand for – a combination of innovation, rich cultural heritage, and a sense of pride and belonging.”

Wickstead used bespoke hand-painted prints from tā moko artist Te Rangitu Netana. The Fine Print – Dress, one of the collection’s key pieces, boasts the meaningful kowhai print inspired by the Māori heritage’s story of Ngatoro-i-Rangi, which symbolizes protection, responsibility and belonging. With The Collective Thread – Shirt, the purapura whetū pattern is inspired by the stars the Māori ancestors used for navigation. The versatile collection is designed to be worn by any cabin crew or ground staff member.
“Designing the Air New Zealand uniform has been an incredibly personal project for me. At the heart of it was a deep respect for the heritage and the unique identity of New Zealand’s people and land,” said Wickstead. “It was essential to me that this uniform tells a meaningful story about Aotearoa. I wanted to create a uniform that empowers individuals and inspires pride in all who wear it and see it. For me, good design should always evoke a sense of pride and occasion, and I believe this uniform will do just that.”

Other items in the collection include:
- The Wrap Around – Trench: A trench coat created in the suiting violet pinstripe
- The Woven One – Ie Faitaga: A cultural garment to be trialed by Pacific people celebrating the rich heritage of the Pacific community
- The Runway Cut – Waistcoat: A new waistcoat for male crew members and ground staff
“Each print is a story, deeply rooted in the traditions and values of Aotearoa,” said Netana. “The patterns on this uniform are a reflection of the land, the sea, and the connections that bind us all as Kiwi. As a Māori artist on the world stage, I feel a deep responsibility in ensuring our culture is represented in a way that is authentic and meaningful. I’m proud that these designs have found a place in Air New Zealand’s uniform, bringing te ao Māori to designs that show up all over the world.”

May 23, 2025Relax, Rejuvenate and Heal at StolenTime
At the namesake luxury, 5-star all-inclusive resort in Saint Lucia, the concept of “stolen time” used to be reserved for couples escaping to canoodle, reconnect and perhaps rekindle in sumptuous accommodations during a romantic getaway on the lush Caribbean island. But when StolenTime by Rendezvous rebranded in late 2022 to welcome all adult guests and focus more on wellness, the philosophy expanded to encompass self-reflection, personal growth and enrichment. After all, time is our most precious commodity, one that’s finite and too quickly slips through our grasp; we need to find those moments that matter and make them count.
