It’s a fear (and even experience) we’ve all unfortunately had when traveling: We get to our destination or back home and wait at baggage claim, only to have the sinking realization our bag didn’t emerge and is missing. Fortunately, more and more airlines seek ways to avoid these problems or, at least in the event your bag does go missing temporarily, have ways to keep tabs on bags.
Lufthansa Group Airlines is one airline doing just that. The company introduced a new service for passengers, effective immediately, meaning Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings integrated the Apple AirTag location feature into their baggage tracing.
Customers can use the new function to privately and securely share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory via the familiar channels of the baggage tracing service.
Virgin Atlantic also announced some changes. The airline recently partnered with Apple to allow customers to utilize Apple’s new Share Item Location feature to privately and securely share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with the airline’s customer teams. This allows Virgin Atlantic to locate delayed bags or reunite them with customers more quickly.
To successfully share the location of an AirTag or Find My network accessory with the airline, first generate a Share Item Location link in the Find My app on your iPad, iPhone or Mac. Then, if your bag goes missing, when filling out a missing bag report, you can share the link with the airport and baggage tracing teams who can view the live location of the bag and use it to reunite you with your luggage.
