JetBlue enters a new era of travel with the announcement of domestic first-class seating, slated to debut in 2026. These new cabins will first appear on the routes on which JetBlue does not offer Mint business class.
Joanna Geraghty, CEO, JetBlue, confirmed these plans in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal.
What will these cabins look like?
The airline’s new first-class seats will be in a two-by-two configuration at the front of all domestic aircraft, including two rows on Airbus A220 and three rows of Airbus A321neo, Airbus A321ceo and Airbus A320. As the date nears of the cabin launch, more details will be revealed.
The news closely follows other U.S. airlines implementing more premium options for travelers. Earlier this month, budget airline Frontier Airlines revealed its own plans to offer first-class seating. Passengers can expect these new seats on Frontier Airlines as early as 2025.
The news closely follows JetBlue’s recent more questionable and perhaps less-than-ideal decisions. This past October, the airline officially announced economy-class passengers on trans-Atlantic flights will no longer be offered complimentary hot meals. This update applies to all of the airline’s trans-Atlantic flights, regardless of departure point or aircraft type. Instead, economy-class passengers are given the option of chilled dishes.
This past year also saw JetBlue cut flights out of Los Angeles (LAX) and other cities after citing unprofitable markets in these destinations. JetBlue recently announced plans to discontinue 2025 routes serving Florida, Texas, London and New York. Most of these changes will begin April 30. Other reduced flights include ones to and from Boston (BOS). JetBlue also canceled its seasonal route between New York (JFK) and London Gatwick (LGW).
In addition to the airline’s new domestic first-class cabins, JetBlue also recently announced two new trans-Atlantic routes from Boston (BOS) to Madrid (MAD) and Edinburgh (EDI). Both routes launch May 22, 2025. Flights from Boston to Madrid depart at 10:25 p.m. and arrive at 11:30 a.m. Flights from Boston to Edinburgh depart at 10:30 p.m. and arrive in Edinburgh at 10:10 a.m.
In other words, it seems JetBlue is undergoing a major shift to fully recover after the pandemic. Catering to discerning travelers and refocusing its market and services is a hopeful step for JetBlue.
