After years of delays, Jacksonville International Airport’s new Concourse B officially broke ground in late May. Jacksonville, Florida, currently has A and C gates across two concourses.
Last year, more than 7.4 million people flew in and out of the airport, 3 million more than in 2022. The original Concourse B was demolished in 2009 after Concourses A and C were built in 2008.
Concourse B will add six new gates, with plans to allow four more gates for plane parking if necessary. Plans for a new taxiway are also underway, allowing for more than one take-off point. The new concourse will span three levels across more than 186,000 square feet and feature new restaurants and amenities. The concourse is slated to open at the end of 2026. Other plans involve adding about 2,000 new parking spaces.
The $300 million project also caters to growing passenger traffic through Jacksonville International Airport. Phase One of the project was to add and upgrade TSA checkpoints, with 12 new checkpoints added in December 2023 to shorten lines.
