If you’re planning a trip to the Washington, D.C. region this winter to take in the museums, monuments and other sites, carve in some time to sample seasonal cocktails and cuisine at one of these unique spaces sure to make you feel like you’re on a ski holiday in St. Moritz or Aspen.
The team behind the globally focused New American restaurant at Hotel Kimpton Monaco transformed its courtyard into a winter ski chalet. Settle into a table outfitted with soft blankets and stay warm with heaters and fire pits set up throughout the space; there’s even a snow cannon. Chef Anthony Jones created a menu of international dishes including poutine with truffled chicken gravy; calamari skewers with miso and chili garlic butter; and inverted s’mores with roasted dulce chocolate, a spiced cookie and a toasted meringue. Nosh while sipping creative cocktails from beverage director JR Rena. The Ski’s Limited shakes Ford’s Gin with St. Germaine and cranberry molasses, topped with sparkling rosé. For Whom the Bean Tolls is a fun take on an espresso martini, with Patron Reposado, Frangelico, espresso and Champagne cream. The chalet is open until Feb. 28, and reservations can be made via Opentable.

The Macallan Chalets at Bourbon Steak DC
This season, Michael Mina’s swanky steakhouse at Four Seasons in Georgetown teamed up with renowned single-malt Scotch whisky partner The Macallan to turn the patio into a winter wonderland. Inspired by the distillery’s estate in Speyside, the three custom-built Macallan Chalets have rich wood tones and cozy accents, and can accommodate parties of up to four, six or 10. Lead bartender Engidawork Alebachew and pastry chef Ashish Thalakkat created a boozy hot chocolate with The Macallan Sherry Oak 18 Years Old and Valrhona chocolate; the dreamy libation is topped with Macallan milk foam, marshmallows, cinnamon dust, a chocolate tree, edible gold leaf and marshmallow twigs representing the trees growing along the River Spey. New offerings from the food menu include Maine lobster pot pie with baby leeks, black trumpets and lobster dumplings, perfect paired with the vanilla and Sherry flavors of The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old. Fontina-stuffed gnudi with white truffle butter and toasted potato broth cozies up nicely to the citrus and ginger notes of The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old. The chalets can be rented for a fee of $25 per person, with a food and beverage minimum of $500; reserve them here.
Ski Gondolas at Stone Tower Winery
Venture outside the District to the popular winery in Leesburg, Virginia, atop Hogback Market, which installed three ski gondolas on their patio. Designed for two people, the red gondolas are enclosed but not heated (so dress warmly!); however, they are both a unique locale to do a wine tasting and a decidedly perfect opportunity to take Instagram-worthy shots. Reservations can be made for a two-hour slot, which includes a flight of three wines and the signature butter board with house-made ciabatta bread, apple cider butter, garlic kale butter and pepitas. You can also add on other dishes like truffle fries, mussels with white wine and garlic, or pizza Margherita. Can’t-miss wines include Wild Boar Cellars Blanc de Blancs, Sauvignon Blanc Reserve and Nebbiolo. The flight and reservation costs $30 per person, and each person must be 21 or over. The gondolas will be available until mid-March and can be booked here.
