Private jet charter service Jettly recently conducted an extensive study to find the most and least reliable U.S. airports in 2023. Analyzing the total number of delays, cancellations and diversions from more than 390 U.S. airports provided by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the results saw the least reliable airports span all corners of the country.
The least reliable U.S. airport discovered was Stockton Metropolitan Airport in California. With 44.6 percent of flights experiencing issues between January and August 2023, the airport saw 317 out of 710 total flight operations experiencing delays, cancellations or diversions. Out of 355 arrivals, 144 flights were delayed.
The second-least reliable U.S. airport found was Aspen/Pitkin County Airport in Colorado, with 37.6 percent of all flights at this airport experiencing issues. Of the 4,892 departures, 1,351 flights were delayed and another 427 flights were canceled.
The third- through 10th-least reliable U.S. airports noted are:
- Provo Municipal Airport, Utah
- Trenton-Mercer Airport, New Jersey
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida
- Huntington Tri-State Airport, West Virginia
- Houghton County Memorial Airport, Michigan
- Latrobe Airport (Arnold Palmer Regional Airport), Pennsylvania
- Orlando International Airport, Florida
- Concord-Padgett Regional Airport, North Carolina
Some airlines and third-party transportation services responded to increases in delays and cancellations, including JetBlue, which partnered with Uber for Business to aid customers experiencing major flight disruptions.
