If you love a good festival as much as we do, add Virginia Beach, Virginia, to your list of springtime destinations. Launching the season on April 7 and 8, the Z Fringe Festival presents a fun blend of cutting-edge theater and theater-adjacent works in the region’s first major theater festival. Performances will be presented on three stages in Zeiders American Dream Theater.
The new Bulls & Barrels Beach Rodeo on April 15 and 16 is the first stop on the Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association rodeo circuit. It’s also the first competition of its kind to be held on sand, complete with rodeo clowns, barrel racing and bull riding.

The 90th anniversary of Historic Garden Week in Virginia gets underway with close to 30 expeditions through a mix of private landscapes, historic spots and public gardens. This home and garden tour takes in locations across the state, and includes a route in Virginia Beach’s North End neighborhood on April 19.
The East Coast She-Crab Soup Classic is on deck for April 22, where a variety of restaurants will Offer their best in an outdoor tasting event to compete for the Critic’s and People’s Choice awards. The venue is 24th Street Stage/Park, where you can sample your share of the she-crab soup that’s become one of the area’s most popular menu staples.
April 28–30, music is the theme of Something in the Water, a beachside blend of art, culture and tunes with live performances on oceanfront stages. Local musician, producer and rapper Pharrell Williams is the creative force behind the event. This year’s performance line-up will be announced soon via the festival website.

On the weekend of May 6 and 7, the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival takes to the skies over town beaches, while the Beach Music Cruise-In on May 12 and 13 celebrates music from the 1960s. This festival offers visitors the chance to practice their best 60s dance moves in the sand.
The 20th Annual Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic & Surf Art Expo offers a fun mix of ocean sport and the arts, May 26–29. Visitors should also look out for events part of the 26th Annual Virginia Arts Festival, with performances including classical music from Virginia Symphony, along with Ballet Hispanico and Mark Morris Group dancers.
