Susana Balbo, Argentina’s renowned female winemaker, officially opened her first hotel, SB Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites in the wine region of Mendoza. Her more than 40 years in the wine industry, which earned her many international accolades, allowed her to begin a new chapter through the creation of this luxury boutique hotel.

With the help of her daughter Ana Lovaglio Balbo, Susana’s new hotel provides guests with a sense of place. Perfect for guests wanting to experience the region’s culture and wines, the hotel includes seven spa suites with fully integrated in-room spa features and services, the only luxury wine hotel in Latin America to have such features. Throughout the property, 20 prominent Argentine and Brazilian artists display their works, further integrating the region’s history and culture with the hotel.
Each suite includes a steam room, sensations shower and massage table. Four of the seven suites also come with a dry sauna. In addition to their own living room and terrace, all seven individually designed suites also boast a curated wine fridge and traditional blankets of dyed llama wool made by the rural women of Argentina. The glass-walled suites also feature a private garden with an outdoor firepit and heated loungers hidden from other guests by a wall of volcanic stone and foliage. Upon arrival to the suite’s heated loungers, guests enjoy a 15-minute massage.

Turndown service includes in-room aromatherapy in the in-suite tub, shaped like the concrete egg wine tanks used in the fermentation process.
The hotel’s Wellness Butler provides guests with the opportunity to choose from a number of wellness rituals using local herbs and other ingredients. Treatments include relaxing geothermal therapy massages, detox treatments and body exfoliation treatments.

On site, guests find the property’s restaurant La VidA, which features Argentinian cuisine utilizing bold flavors and sustainable and organic ingredients. Guests can dine in the dining room of the house or at the exclusive Chef’s Table for an intimate experience overlooking the open-flame cooking. The Chef’s Table menu offers carefully crafted local options, each paired with Susana Balbo or rare, world-prized wines.
Guests can also indulge in La VidA’s á la carte or four-course set dinner menu, which can also be paired with renowned wines or signature cocktails from the bar. The hotel’s extensive wine cellar houses the best Argentine and international wines for guests to enjoy.
To experience the region’s landscape and culture, the hotel’s Experience Curator works with guests to arrange novel expeditions, from a bike ride to multiday trips to an afternoon on horseback. Some of the destinations guests can visit while staying at SB Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites include San Raphael, Cafayate, Esteros del Ibera and Patagonia.
The Experience Curator can also arrange activities for guests upon request, such as rafting, tennis, yoga, golf and more. The hotel also offers culinary experiences from cooking and grilling classes to guided wine tours and tastings.

Jun 3, 2025Now’s the Time to See Giza, the Nile and Beyond
All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.
